ZAVRŠENA PRVA AKTIVNOST PROJEKTA EUROPSKIH SNAGA SOLIDARNOSTI / FIRST ACTIVITY OF THE EUROPEAN SOLIDARITY CORPS PROJECT COMPLETED

Sekundarna sukcesija i nepovoljni demografski trendovi dovode do nestanka travnjaka, lokvi i drugih manjih staništa važnih za bioraznolikost i opstanak najugroženijih vrsta flore i faune. Volonterske aktivnosti, provedene uz podršku Javne ustanove, doprinose očuvanju staništa te omogućuju izradu kvalitetnijih planova upravljanja i zaštite vrsta, uključujući i ugrožene vrste obuhvaćene mrežom NATURA 2000.

The first activity of this year’s project within the European Solidarity Corps program finished successfully. With the help of 8 volunteers, the area of Jarak fen above Sošice was successfully cleaned.

In addition, the volunteers at the Sošice Visitor Center also learned how to properly maintain such valuable habitats and took part in additional activities that we documented with photos.

Habitat conservation is one of the primary goals of the PI “Žumberak – Samoborsko gorje Nature Park.” Through secondary succession and a negative demographic trend, habitats such as grasslands, ponds and other smaller habitats important for biodiversity and the survival of the most endangered species of flora and fauna are disappearing. With the help of the Nature Park employees, this volunteer activity contributed to the preservation of habitats, and the results obtained will help the PI to create a better management plan and protect more habitats necessary for the life cycle of many endangered plants and animals, including some endangered NATURA 2000 species.

The overall value of the project, which lasts from June 1st 2025 until March 31st 2026, is €37,739 and is co-financed by the European Union.
